Eat Your Medicine: How Food Can Heal Your Body

The need for clean, natural food in its rawest most pure form is of great importance and farmers and manufactures need to take care to provide this. For example, Flodins prides their company on delivering only the purest, freshest and most natural food products to their consumers.  They have received their meat for years from farms in the Nordic region that has the highest standards in ethical farming, animal care and environmental awareness with no pollution present- “controlling every step from farm to fork.” This enabled them to create their prized Omega- 3 Pork, which over years of research they have made their pork more tender, flavorful, with a better texture and is much healthier to consume.

Food, when it is grown without the use of growth propellers, pesticides and without environmental pollution, will be in its most pure form. Plant foods such as tomatoes, cabbage, garlic, and blueberries all carry what is called phytonutrients, which are molecules that act like triggers for your DNA to help fight off diseases and make your body healthier. Nutrigenomics is teaching us that our food can actually talk to our DNA and act as an on/off switch to our genes that either may lead to health or disease.

The white group such as garlic and onions contain the tumor-busting allicin. Spinach and collard greens are in the yellow and green group of plant food, and they contain carotenoids lutein and zeaxanthin which wards of cataracts and possibly atherosclerosis. Lycopene found in red plant foods like tomatoes help rid the body of free radicals. Cantaloupes and pumpkins can ward of cancer with alpha-carotene, and the beta-carotene they provide can actually repair damaged DNA.

To sum up, the amazing molecules in all foods delivered by reputable, ethical farmers- like Flodins– help you stay healthy and strong. Hippocrates may have said it best; “Let food be thy medicine and medicine be thy food.”
