Art Basel in Hong Kong

“Since its inception five years ago, Art Basel in Hong Kong has transformed the city into one of Asia’s most important cultural hubs.” – Ann Binlot | Forbes

Art is a fundamental aspect of human life; everyone knows Da Vinci’s Mona Lisa or Van Gogh’s The Scream! That’s one reason we are thrilled that Art Basel has become such an integral part of Hong Kong- showcasing the region’s diversity through both historical material and cutting-edge works by established and emerging artists. In turn, Gay Games Hong Kong 2022 plans to showcase unique local artistic traditions like calligraphy, Cantonese Opera and martial arts displays with contemporary programmes, performers and artists. The Gay Games are an international multi-sport and culture festival, planned by the LGBT+ community for everyone regardless of sexual orientation, gender, age and sporting ability.

As Hong Kong is bidding for the 2022 Gay Game, you should know how important art and culture are- in addition to the expected sporting events of course! The 2017 edition featured 242 premier galleries from 34 countries and territories! Interested in attending this must-see event next year? It’s already scheduled for March 29 – 31, 2018.  Here is some helpful info:

  • Guided Tours:  To enjoy an art show completely, a guided tour with an expert is a must! They can introduce you to the artwork, provide context and help you make the most of this experience.
  • Cultural Institutions: From Modern art to Chinese calligraphy, Hong Kong’s museums offer a diverse range of possibilities. Alongside prominent international and local art galleries, these icons shape the cultural landscape of the region.
  • Bookshops – Enjoy browsing and shopping a large  selection of notable books about Modern and Contemporary art from major artworld publishers.
  • Restaurants and Cafes – Hungry during the art show?  Seven restaurants are located throughout the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre, offering everything from casual cafe dining to the formal elegance of fine Chinese cuisine.
